Tai Chi: Beginners

Tai Chi is a beautiful (walking) sequence of graceful stretchy moves; and is now recognised in the West for its multiple health and wellbeing benefits.

This is a class suitable for total beginners, so no previous experience is necessary.

All participants progress and practice at their own pace and within their own physical capabilities.

Classes will run in Blocks of 6 and continues throughout the year.

In each we session we build upon previous tuition, so a commitment to attending the Block of sessions is more appropriate and fairer to other students.

Next Block starts July 9th, please add your name to the waiting list. You'll need to Log In to the members area to do this.

If you think you'd miss 2 or more weeks, please wait until another Block when your diary is freer.

Tuition is based on the Moy style, which Master Moy adapted from the traditional Yang form to suit Western bodies.

Sue Davies (Group Coordinator) is a former Tai Chi Instructor, sharing her passion, knowledge and understanding for this beautiful art.

The full Tai Chi Set is made up of 108 moves, many repeating. In this Tai Chi Beginners Group we focus on the first 17 moves and the Foundation exercises, giving you a complete practice you can enjoy in your own time.

Each new Block of classes will be suitable for and welcoming to new absolute beginners.

Many of the Tai Chi Foundation exercises can be practiced either seated or standing, instruction will be included for both options. This gives members choice and makes the class as inclusive and as accessible as possible.

Hopefully students will want to practice at home for maximum benefit.

Sue has made videos of the foundation exercises for you to watch at home (if you wish), making learning through repetition easier. Members will receive the link by email.

We split the room hire cost for the Block of classes between us (currently £5 each per Block of 6 classes). The hall has plenty of parking and is on a regular bus service (S11) from town. We do have a maximum capacity for the classes as we each need space to move around, arms especially!

This is a light-hearted and sociable class focusing on health and wellbeing, balance, coordination and learning together.

We take a social break mid-class with your own refreshments.
